Mounts & Tilt Bars

We include "Rocker Foot" Mounts in all of our SunRunner Systems as they work excellent in almost all installations (see "Mounts" page in our "Educational" pages). These are strong, weather-resistant mounts that are custom made for us out of Laser Cut Stainless Steel.

There are a couple of ways to fasten these mounts to your roof. One is to use stainless steel, pan head, sheet metal screws in conjunction with a sealant (like DiCor). This works well on most all roof types and is about the only way available to use on rubber roofs.

Another method is available if your roof is composed of smooth fiberglass or aluminum. We have had great success using 3M VHB double-sided tape on these types of roof. It is imperative that both the roof and the mounts be thoroughly cleaned with Acetone or Rubbing Alcohol to remove all traces of wax, grease or oil in order for proper adhesion. The temperature also has to be above 55 degrees F. If you follow these directions completely, then you can avoid the penetrations in your roof caused by using screws. This 3M VHB tape is said to outperform spot welds and rivets! (when applied according to 3M's instructions)

When Tilt Bars (see below) are added to the Rocker Foot Mount Set described above, several options become available to you.
  1. You can tilt the Solar Panels toward the Sun in the Winter to increase the charging amperage to your batteries (up to 30% to 40% ! ).
  2. You can hold the solar panels up off the roof while you clean under them.
  3. You can hold the solar panels up while you access the junction box on the back of them for trouble shooting or checking wiring conections.

When you don't need them, the Tilt Bars bolt together as one unit for easy storage. Pick up a set for each of your solar panels. When you need them, you'll be glad that you have them on hand.
