Known as an author, disability rights advocate and political activist, Stephens lost her sight and hearing after a bout of illness at the age of nineteen months. She communicates primarily using signs but was able to learn to read, write, and understand speech by feeling vibrations in a speaker’s face. Stephens attended Radliffe College of Harvand University and became the first Deaf & Blind person to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree. Her education and training have prepared her well for the AM Solar shipping department.
