Which Inverter/Charger is Right for Me?

The primary function of the inverter in your solar power system is to produce 120V AC power from a 12V DC battery bank. More sophisticated inverters will come with the option for a built-in DC charger for your 12V battery system when you are plugged into shore power or running from your onboard generator, allowing your trailer or RV to run off-grid. This feature serves to replace your existing on-board converter with superior battery charging set-points. Other RV solar inverter and charger kit systems may have an option for a pass-through AC function, or automatic transfer, that enables shore power (or a generator) to bypass the inverter when you’re “plugged in.” The most advanced inverters have a hybrid function that enables current to be drawn from shore power and a battery bank at the same time. This is a great feature running large appliances like air conditioners from a low current shore power source. Of course, the price point changes with the addition of these options.

When selecting an inverter for your system consider the following:

  • Wattage:

500W or less – Computers, Lights, Cell Phones
1200 or less – Instant pot, Refrigerator
2000W or more – Microwaves, Blenders, Hairdryers
2800W or more – Air conditioners, Laundry Machines

  • Output configuration:

    15A – Single outlet
30A – Single sided breaker box with 3-prong shore cord
50A – Double sided breaker box with 4-prong shore cord

  • Frequency:

50hz – European and Asian appliances
60hz – American appliances (AM Solar only stocks 60hz inverters)

  • Empty Shell Inverter/Charger Kits

Empty Shell kits are designed for power system upgrades in applications where there are no pre-existing electrical infrastructure. This includes van conversions, skoolies, horse trailers, tiny homes, ect

    Empty Shell Inverter/Charger Kits

Empty Shell Inverter/Charger kits are full encompassing kits, designed for vehicles like van conversions or skoolies that do not have any existing wiring. These kits include the main AC panel and a shore power connection.

For 30A builds, we recommend the following kits:
    MP2000 Empty Shell – 98-ES2kVA
    MP3000 Empty Shell – 98-ES3kVA
    MPII 1×120 Empty Shell – 98-ESMP1x120
For 50A builds, we recommend the following

  • 30A Inverter/Charger Kits

30A RV Upgrade kits are designed for applications where there is already a single-sided AC panel, inlet, and shore cord (with 3-prongs). This includes most Class B & C motorhomes, and smaller trailers.

    30A Inverter/Charger Kits

Our 30A Inverter/Charger kits are designed for rigs that have a 30A AC service (3 Wire / L1- N -G), and that already have a 30A AC distribution panel and Shore power connection.

Our Full-Pass Kits are designed to be installed between your shore power connection and an existing AC distribution, in conjunction with a battery bank.

These kits are commonly used for replacing existing inverter/charger units or for upgrading existing inverter/charger/converter units in order

  • 50A Inverter/Charger Kits

50A RV Upgrade kits are designed for applications where there is already a double-sided AC panel, inlet, and shore cord (with 4-prongs). This includes most Class A motorhomes, large trailers, and 5th wheels.

    50A Inverter/Charger Kits

Our 50A Inverter/Charger kits are designed for rigs that have a 50A AC service (4 Wire / L1- L2 – N -G), and that already have a 50A AC distribution panel and Shore power connection.

Our Full-Pass Kits are designed to be installed between your shore power connection and an existing AC distribution, in conjunction with a battery bank.

These kits are commonly used for replacing existing inverter/charger units or for upgrading existing inverter/charger/converter units in order

Due to the delicate nature of the electronics and high cost of shipping, all inverter sales are final. If there is a problem with your unit we can connect you with the manufacturer’s tech support team to resolve any potential warranty issues.
