Where Do I Start?

AM Solar sells do-it-yourself kits and offers professional installation.

I AM COMPLETELY NEW TO SOLAR, AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I WOULD NEED FOR MY RIG!

We’ve prepared a lot of educational resources for you. We definitely recommend starting out by reading through some of our pages if you’re brand new to everything.
Our AM Solar Quick Reference Sheet is another great place to get started on your RV solar power education. It has terminology, equations, and general rules of thumb for sizing your system.

Solar Education

If you have no idea what you need and you are looking for guidance, the best way to start is by filling out the Quote Request form.  This form will guide you through questions about your rig, your camping lifestyle and your power consumption habits.   The more complete this form is, the easier it will be for the AM Solar sales team to point you in the right direction.  This might be an email with more questions or an installation estimate with a recommended bill of materials.

Because everyone uses their rigs differently, there is no “one size fits all solution” for each model of RV, van, skoolie, etc.  Our power systems are completely customizable depending on electrical needs, space constraints and budget limits.  In other words, if you say “I have a 30’ Airstream, what should I buy?” we will have hundreds of options ranging from $300 to $30,000.  We need more information about how you plan to use the rig.

While you are waiting for a response from the sales team, mouse over DIY INSTRUCTIONS and click on RV SOLAR EDUCATION.  Here you will find many useful articles that can give you a foundation of knowledge to help you choose the products that match your needs.  Additionally, you can enter the make, model, or type of rig into the search bar below.  With any luck, we will have worked on something similar to what you have (and had time to post it on our website).  This will give you an idea of what other people are doing.

I’M LOOKING FOR A SPECIFIC PART OR PRODUCT.

If you need a particular product, you can try typing its description, make, or model into the search bar above.

You can also click on PRODUCTS at the top of the page.  On the left side of the Products page we have a list of product categories that you can click on.  Or, it might be faster to use the graphic.  Blue boxes correspond to solar charging components and kits.  Orange boxes are for alternator charging components and kits.  Purple boxes are for AC components, inverters, chargers, etc.  Red boxes are for DC components, cables and lugs.  Green boxes are for batteries and monitors.

Or, if you’re still not finding it, fill out a Quote Request and the AM Solar sales team will help you out.

I AM FAMILIAR WITH SOLAR, BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE I GET EVERYTHING I NEED FOR MY RIG.

If you are designing a system for a particular application, mouse over COMPLETE KITS and select the most relevant application.  In each of these product categories, we have designed three grades of kits to choose from.  One of these popular kits might suit your needs, or maybe it will just serve as inspiration for a custom configuration.  If you would like to configure your own system, the bottom of each page includes a step-by-step design guide.  Or, fill out a Quote Request form and let us know what you liked about a particular design and what you would like to have adjusted.  We can modify any of our designs to get you a customized system.

I WANT AM SOLAR TO DO MY INSTALLATION

If you want us to do the installation, the best way to start the process would be to fill out our online Quote Request form.  This form will guide you through questions about your rig, your camping lifestyle and your power consumption habits.   The more complete this form is, the easier it will be for the AM Solar sales team to point you in the right direction.  After determining your needs we will create an estimate to make sure you are at least in the ballpark as far as price expectations.  If you like the estimate, we will work with you to set up an installation date.  It is very important that you schedule your installation as quickly as possible because we are frequently booked out several months in advance.  Although we try to build an accurate estimate prior to arrival, you shouldn’t be afraid to make design changes when you get here.  Almost everyone changes their design slightly after visiting our showroom and having an intake inspection.  Before any work begins, we give you an updated estimate based on the specifics of your rig, factoring in all last minute design changes.  To learn more about the logistics of an AM Solar installation, please read our DIRECTIONS AND ACCOMMODATIONS page.
